Ok - I'm hooked.

When it comes to TV I'm usually one of the people who manages to get on board with something before it turns into a cultural talking point. I did it with Twin Peaks, X-Files and with shows like 24 and LOST. So when NBC rolled out Heroes this Fall, I thought it looked pretty cool and I wanted to give it a shot to see if it was going to live up to all the hype. As it turned out I only got to see bits and pieces of the premiere episode (all of which looked extremely interesting) but thought I had missed the boat because I hadn't gotten to see every little bit of it from the beginning.

Flash forward to last week. I had family in town for the holiday. They asked if I watched Heroes. I told them no but that it looked very interesting and I wished I had gotten the chance to see it from the beginning. They proceeded to say how great the show was and that I should definitely try and see it if I had the chance.

Low and behold - I'm looking at the DVR guide on the TV today and see that SciFi channel is running a Heroes marathon (the first 6 episodes). COOLNESS!! I programmed all 6 eps to record and then went back and watched the first episode from start to finish.

Needless to say - I'm hooked!

I've gone in and added a season pass for it on the DVR and am planning on heading on over to nbc.com (or iTunes) to try and fill in the missing 3 (or 4) episodes once I have gotten through the remaining 5.

Interesting premise. Lots of intrigue and un-answered questions...and a high school cheerleader doing all sorts of disgusting things to try and hurt herself. I say again - COOLNESS.

Now I can't wait to see episode #2 - and beyond....

Brrrrrrrrr it's chilly....

20 degrees. I know cold is a relative term but still that's pretty cold. It's also the forecasted low here in Beaverton tonight.

Currently it's 27 degrees.

Big whoop you say...I agree. I say that only because I grew up back East and have experienced this kind of weather plenty of times. The thing is that I lived in California from September 1989 until about 2 months ago.

I'm not used to this kind of cold...but I can deal with it.

Just thought I'd share.

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!

One of the neat things about moving to Oregon from California was the possibility of getting to see some snow fall after approximately 15yrs without it. Well - what do you know? On Monday morning we were treated to snowfall here in Beaverton. Within seconds I was 12 years old again looking to the sky in wonder at something so beautiful. I woke my daughter so that for the first time in her life she could see snow falling from the sky. Her take - the snowflakes taste like sugar...from the mouth of a soon to be 5 year old.

It snowed for a while 3 separate times on Monday leaving us with a bit of a dusting and smiles all around.

Peace on Earth??

Please oh pretty please can we stop the insanity? Just looking at a few headlines on cnn.com and came across these two beauties -

A man KILLED another man over a $20 college football bet! I say again - killed a man!

::sheesh::

A woman in Colorado is being threatened with a fine of $25 a day until she takes down a Christmas wreath with a peace sign on it. The reason?? Some residents say it's an anti-Iraq war protest or a symbol of Satan. Symbol of Satan??? Come on people!! It's a Christmas wreath!!

Check out Homeowners Association president Bob Kearns. He ordered the committee to require Lisa Jensen to remove the wreath, but members refused after concluding that it was merely a seasonal symbol that didn't say anything.

Kearns then fired all five committee members.

There's this little thing called freedom of speech...take a peek at it Bob.

::sigh::

Oh yeah - I almost forgot. Pamela Anderson and Kid Rock are getting a divorce. Wow - who could have EVER seen that one coming???

Matsuzaka to Me

I apologize for the poor Laugh In pun but it is the best I can do on short notice.

That said - the object of my pun is 26 yr old Japanese righthander Daisuke Matsuzaka - the free agent ace my Red Sox paid a reported $51.1 million dollars just to negotiate with!

Is he worth it?? If you look at his numbers over the last 3 years in Japan you can't argue with his success.

Some positives (simply put) -
1. he is 26 yrs old and theoretically has his best years ahead of him
2. he is an EXTREMELY talented pitcher with an incredible combination of power and control that very few players have ever had
3. the Yankees didn't get his negotiation rights!

Stay tuned in the next 30 days for a sure to be ugly negotiation with his agent - the devil's right hand - Scott Boras.

Ultimately I believe this bold move will be worth every penny spent and will help the Sox atract other free agent talent currently on their radar. This move clearly shows the Sox are serious about doing whatever it takes to fill the needs they have and make this team the favorite for the 2007 World Championship.

That works for me.

LOST lost

I understand the idea behind ABC's brilliant move (insert sarcasm here) having Lost going off the air until February 7th, 2007...No repeats. Do I agree with it?? Hell no! I have to admit that it will be nice to have 16 straight weeks of Lost when it returns but 13 weeks - I mean who knows if I'll even have cable in 13 weeks.

It seems to me that these days the networks are all trying so hard to be different with their scheduling that they end up out-thinking themselves and end up causing a bigger mess than they had to begin with. I don't understand the idea of greenlighting a serialized show like Vanished (or Kidnapped or the CW Network classic Runaway) and then canceling it before it actually has the time to present the entire story. I mean - the network knew exactly what they were getting into when they decided on that course of programming and someone somewhere out there is going to be pissed because they liked the darn show. But then they all can't be Lost, 24 or Heroes. Also - the whole idea of canceling shows after they have been on one or two weeks??? What the heck is that all about??? If that was how you planned on dealing with it if it sucked then you never should have put the thing on the air in the first place. Simply nuts.

Of course this is just one humble person's opinion....We'll see how the whole LOST "vacation" experiment works out. I'm hoping for the best. As for it's replacement? ABC is trotting out Day Break. The show certainly looks interesting but isn't this just Groundhog Day with guns? It's stars Taye Diggs so my wife will make it required DVR viewing.

Put a show on the air with Michael Vartan, Johnny Depp, Matthew McConaughey or Taye Diggs in it and she's hooked.

Oh well - what can you do?

Uplifting TV News of the Week (UTVNOTW) - Take a looksie at this!
Nice to see a network with a little vision. Bravo NBC.

The Full Monty - 2006 Mid-Term Election Style

WOWZA...talk about a 180 degree turn!!

The Dems now control the House and barring a re-count disaster will take Montana and Virginia to give them the 49 dem (and two independent) seats they need to control the Senate.

Like icing on the cake - this morning's announcement that Donald Rumsfeld is resigning.

I say again - WOWZA!

Well Dems - you've been handed keys to the new Porche. Have a great time tooling around the neighborhood but DON'T GET IN A WRECK!

AMERICA AND THE WORLD ARE WATCHING.

New Geek

In homage to a very hopeful Democratic changing of the guard in tomorrow's mid-term elections - I decided to make a few changes here at The Geek.

Made a quick change to the site template and added in some additional links to make your viewing and reading experience the best that it can be - in this price range.

I apologize to all 3 of you readers out there about slacking off so terribly. I have no excuse to use other than the fact that my family and I recently moved 700 miles north to Beaverton, OR - home of Nike and currently, a heck of alot of rain.

I'll do my best to get back in the saddle and fill your heads with the tasty little nuggets of useless information that you have come to expect.

...because that's why I'm here.
